Writing the next chapter

This past year has been one of change and challenge for me. I reflect on my 47 years here on this rock and I am proud of what I have accomplished. I did poorly in high school and graduated last in my class and I was leading a life I wasn't proud of between the ages of eighteen to twenty two. It took me walking away from a car accident that should have killed me to make me realize that I was wasting my days away. So I made a serious life decision. I joined the US Marines. I still feel, even to this day, that if it weren't for the Marines, I would be dead or in jail.

Because I was able to turn my life around, I have been able to achieve many of my life goals - get married, start a family, buy a house, get a higher education and have a long career. I also became a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Along the way I have faced many obstacles. Many easy to overcome, others not so easy. The hardest were my twin sons who faced their own challenges. My youngest twin being diagnosed in 2002 with Rasmussen's Encephalitis and needing neurosurgery to save him for debilitating seizures. My oldest twin being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2015. Both are healthy and strong. Thankfully my youngest son is healthy and hasn't faced any challenges of his own.

What does this have to do with photography? Many things. It has made me reevaluate my life and what it is that  I am here for or what I am meant to do. Maybe I have hit my mid-life crisis later than I expected, or may be I came to the realization that I am the one who controls my destiny and I am responsible for living my own dreams and being happy.

I watch a lot of videos. I watch videos by people who inspire me. People who have forged their own path. People who live by their own ideals. People who live life by their own terms. I am motivated to have a more meaning to my life. I hope to have an impact on others or to inspire others the way the people who look up to have inspired me.

Below are links to videos that I watch at least weekly. The keep me driven and motivated. I hope they motivate you also.

Life is too short. Get out there and live it.
